Waste is a serious problem which is growing with the population of this country. According to E-The Environmental Magazine, "The United States has 5% of the world population and generates 19% of the worlds waste." And an alarming 96% of plastic and 50% of paper still goes into landfills.
Unfortunatly there is still no national recycling law in this country.
In Santa Cruz an estimated 85% of residents recycle at home. Through education and understanding we can all play our part in recycling. When shopping, look for earth-friendly products that are made up of recycled materials and/or can be recycled.
Here at New Leaf Community Market we offer recycling facilities for aluminum cans, plastic juice bottles, and glass items purchased while shopping in our store. With everyone's help we can make a world of difference.
